School will be starting back up soon so I have been preparing for many things. The not so fun stuff such as purchasing uniforms, registering for classes (for my oldest), getting back into a early morning routine and contemplating the dreaded Homework that will soon be taking over our lives! Then their is the fun stuff like buying school supplies (yes we love this), buying cute lunch boxes and planning the lunch menu and thinking about after school snacks. My kids look forward to their #AfterSchoolSnacks. It is a way to relax after a long day at school. Plus when their stomachs are full they can concentrate on that dreaded homework!
It is important for me to have everything planned out as much as possible to keep me from going crazy. I am fortunate enough with the company I work for that I can work from home. However, it is kind of a split shift and my busiest work times are from 9-noon and 3-5. Right when the kids are getting home! To make all of our lives simpler, planning the right after school snack is very important. Now that my kids are getting older I can just prep a few things on the weekend and then they can make things themselves during the week.
Some of our favorite after school snacks are
- Bagel Bites with different topping ideas
- Sliced apples & Peanut Butter
- Crackers, String Cheese and a slice of lunch meat
- Items they can easily pull from the freezer and cook such as Delimex Taquitos
On the weekend I make sure to stock up on the frozen items, buy presliced apples, crackers, cheese, lunch meat, etc. and after school snacks become a breeze. The Bagel Bites and Delimex can be easily found in your local Walmarts freezer section. Mine were on the same aisle and just a few shelves away from each other.
My kids love to make their bagel bites with different toppings. So on the weekend I also prep these toppings. I fill baggies up with diced ham, mushrooms, pineapple, peppers and olives. Then the kids can create their own mini pizzas with Bagel Bites. Other then being delicious they think this is so fun as well.
It is also important to me that my kids are getting good quality after school snacks. Bagel Bites are made with real cheese and homemade sauce with 0g trans fat so they are a snack I feel good about!
To show how easy it is for the kids to be in charge of their own after school snacks I am going to let my son Kayden take over and show you what he does. Out of all three of my kids he is the biggest snacker so I thought he would be the best qualified.
Over to you Kayden!
After School Snacks
Hi I’m Kayden. I like after school snacks because when I get home from school I am so hungry I could eat a cow. My favorite thing to eat ever is pizza! PETEZZA! So when my mom showed me Bagel Bites I thought they looked good and I was excited to try them. Let me show you how easy they are to make!
If I am gonna die of hunger I can make the bagel bites in the microwave but if I can handle waiting a few minutes I like to make these in the oven. So first I would turn the oven on to 425 degrees and then I put the bagel bites on a cookie sheet.
My mom has different toppings in bags in the fridge that I can just pull out. They are already chopped up and ready to go. On the Pepperoni bagel bites I like to add bell peppers. Sometimes I also add mushrooms.
On the cheese bagel bites I love EVERYTHING! Bacon bits, ham, mushrooms, peppers! I will also make some ham and pineapple ones for my mom to snack on while she finishes her work – she loves it when I do this for her!
So once you have the toppings on and the oven is ready you can cook them in only 14 minutes. Make sure to use kitchen mittens to remove them from the oven.
And also remember to turn the oven off once you are done.
See how delicious and tasty they look?
I like to name my food because when I am eating them I can say “Goodbye Bob!” or “Haha John You thought you could defeat me!”
Another snack I like is these Delimex Taquitos – they can also be cooked in the microwave and oven.
Back to you Mom!
