Dough:
- 1 cup warm Milk
- 3 tbsp melted Butter
- 1 Egg
- ½ tsp Salt
- 1 tbsp Sugar
- 3 cups All Purpose Flour
- 2 ¼ tsp Active Dry Yeast
- 1 clove Garlic minced (about ½ a tsp.)
- ½ tsp Fresh Parsley - minced
- ¼ tsp Dried Thyme - crushed
Topping:
- ½ cup Butter - softened
- 2-3 cloves Garlic - minced
- ½ tsp Oregano - minced
- ¼ tsp Dry Thyme - crushed
- ½ tsp Fresh Parsley - minced
- 1 cup shredded Parmesan Cheese (separated)
Make the Dough in a Bread Machine:
Breadsticks start with homemade bread. I love homemade bread but don't like making it. All of the waiting for it to rise, the kneading and waiting... I have better things to do.
That is why I love my Oster Breadmaker, it does all of the kneading and waiting for me. I love it!
I use my bread machine to make the dough, but the ingredients are the same if you want to make it by hand.
In your bread machine, add all of the dough ingredients except for the garlic, parsley, and thyme.
Use the "dough" setting and press start.
If your bread maker is like mine, it will mix the dough together for about 10 minutes and then beep or pause.
At this point, add the garlic, parsley, and thyme. This gets mixed into the dough through the rest of the cycle.
Once the dough cycle is complete (with my machine, the dough cycle is about 90 minutes), remove the dough from the pan and place it on a lightly floured surface.
Prepare Breadsticks:
Preheat oven to 400º F.
In a bowl mix together all of the topping ingredients except for the parmesan cheese, and mix together.
Roll the dough out until it is pretty thin.
Gently spread about half of the butter and herb mixture over the dough with a basting brush. Then, sprinkle about ⅓ cup of shredded Parmesan cheese on top.
Slice the dough into strips using a pizza cutter.
Give each strip a little twist and place them on a greased rectangle baking sheet.
Bake:
Bake breadsticks at 400º oven for about 10 minutes or until the breadsticks begin to have a golden brown look.
When the breadsticks are out of the oven, generously spread additional butter/herb mixture on top, followed by a sprinkle of parmesan cheese.
Put back in the oven for about 1-2 more minutes, or until the butter mixture has slightly browned.
If your family loves breadsticks then they will definitely love these!
This recipe also works great as a pizza dough. Serve up your favorite pizza and breadsticks, for the perfect pizza night!

Our Baking Essential List:
- For baking casseroles, we use Glass Baking Dishes. I especially like the dishes with lids so leftovers can be transferred straight to the fridge.
- Silicone Kitchenware is my favorite because they don't scratch my cookware and is easy to clean!
- A Glass Cutting Board is a must to prepare all of those ingredients. We even keep ours on our counter at all times.
- This Knife Set will also become your favorite! They cut beautifully, and with the hollow design of the knife, food doesn't stick to the blade.
