Well another Halloween has come and gone. Today I am taking down the Halloween decorations to put up the Fall ones. I may watch one last Halloween movie while I do this. This got me to thinking of our families favorite Halloween movies. I can’t handle the slasher and super scary ones (I am kinda a wimp) and my kids are still too young for these kind of movies (My 16 year old would beg to differ). So today as I start to put away all of the Halloween decor I thought I would share our favorites with you.
I included Amazon links on all of these in case you wanted to check them out (I am an Amazon affiliate)
Top 10 Movies (in no particular order)
This is a favorite of mine – I love the witches, the story and the romance in this movie – I always cry 1or 2 times in this movie.
the Witches
My daughter just loves this movie, especially since she has now read the book. We always watch this once or twice during the Halloween season (and several other times throughout the year)
Hocus Pocus
This is a family favorite for me and my kids. Love the story, the actors and the fun songs.
Ghostbusters
For me this one brings back memories of my childhood and I have loved sharing this movie with my kids. We all get a kick out of it and it is watched just a little too much!
The Nightmare Before Christmas
We love this movie both during Halloween and Christmas! I just love the creativeness and the music. We also have been to Disneyland in the Fall when the Haunted Mansion was decorated in the Nightmare Before Christmas theme which was so fun!
The Brother’s Grimm
While the entire family enjoys this one (though it may be a little scary for young kids) it is a favorite of my husbands. I love how this movie brings in all of the fairy tales together.
Van Helsing
This one is actually a favorite of mine – the kids do enjoy it but I think if have watched it a little too much. So now when I put it on the kids just roll their eyes at me.
The Watcher in the Woods
Okay lets be honest here – out of all the movies I have listed here – this one scares me the most. I was terrified watching it a little kid and when we got it to watch it with our kids I was TERRIFIED! Who knew Disney could strike such fear in my heart! Then we watched it with the kids and it really wasn’t as bad as I remember – I guess I am growing up 🙂
Sleepy Hallow
So this one really isn’t family friendly – it is bloody, with a bit of slasher action. It is a favorite of me and my husbands and we watch it every Halloween.
Thriller
This one isn’t a DVD that we own. Thriller is tradition in our home – it was when I was growing up and something I have carried on with my kids. I pull it up on YouTube and every year before we go out Trick or Treating we eat something warm while watching Thriller – it is a kick of to the Trick or Treating festivities and always so fun! I have added the YouTube video here – enjoy!
