A simple and delicious recipe for Sausage Rolls that makes a great grab-and-go breakfast!
Every family has dishes that were made in their home so often that when you make and eat them later in life they feel and taste like home.
Sausage Rolls is one of those dishes for me.
My mom would make sausage rolls for a weekend breakfast with a delicious gravy or to enjoy on the go to grab on our way out to school.

Ingredients You'll Need For This Recipe:

- 1 pound Ground Sausage - brought to room temperature
- Bread Machine Dough:
- 1 cup plus 2 Tbsp. of Warm Milk
- 1 ½ Tbsp. Sugar
- 1 ½ tsp. Salt
- 2 Tbsp Butter, softened
- 3 cups Flour
- 2 tsp. Yeast
Making the Dough:
Put all of the ingredients in the bread maker in the order listed. Set your bread machine to just mix/raise the dough and take the dough out before it bakes the bread.
Place the dough on a floured surface.
Forming the Rolls:
Roll out the dough.
Spread the thawed, uncooked sausage over the dough.
Gently roll up the dough.
Using a piece of thread, cut the roll into slices about 1 ½ inches thick.
Place each slice into a greased dish.
Let the rolls rise for about 30 additional minutes.
Bake:
Place in a 400-degree oven for 18-20 minutes or until the tops are golden brown.
Serve hot out of the oven.
These can be stored in the fridge and reheated in the microwave (I even like them cold from the fridge).
These can also be made to go with your favorite gravy for a delicious take on biscuits and gravy!
Our Baking Essential List:
- For baking casseroles, we use Glass Baking Dishes. I especially like the dishes with lids so leftovers can be transferred straight to the fridge.
- Silicone Kitchenware is my favorite because they don't scratch my cookware and is easy to clean!
- A Glass Cutting Board is a must to prepare all of those ingredients. We even keep ours on our counter at all times.
- This Knife Set will also become your favorite! They cut beautifully, and with the hollow design of the knife, food doesn't stick to the blade.

Looks delicious!! My family loves biscuits and gravy and this will be a nice change instead of it. I like that you can heat them up during the week for breakfast. Super delish!! Thanks for the recipe 🙂

Doesn't the sausage have to cooked first?

Betty,
The sausage cooks at the same time as the rolls. The sausage is spread thin so it doesn't take long to cook.

Thanks for the info, I'm going to try it very soon.

Have you ever tried using the frozen bread dough loaves? I am wondering if that would work.
Summer Scraps
Amy I have never trid using the frozen bread dough loaves. If you try it and it works please let me know!

I did use the frozen bread dough and it worked fine. I thawed the dough overnight in the fridge (per pkg instructions) and didn't let it rise when removing it to assemble the recipe. In retrospect, I wish I would've let it come to room temperature before rolling it out. However, it was very convenient and I was able to make it the day before and refrigerate it overnight. The next morning I took it out of the fridge about an hour before I baked it.
I modified the recipe slightly by cooking and draining the sausage before assembling and also added 2 cups of cheddar cheese. Next time I make it, I will use a homemade bread dough and follow your recipe exactly!
It was fabulous! I took it to church for our class breakfast. I can't wait to make it for the next family gathering.

That is great Amy, thanks for letting me know. I bet the cheese was really good. Sometimes I will saute mushrooms and onions together, drain out any excess liquid and add that to the sausage. It is very savory and delicious especially if you like mushrooms. I will for sure try cheese next time I make this.

OMG I am so excited to make this recipe. When I was in the 6th grade, in like 1975, Portland, Oregon Public Schools sent all 6th grade classes to a week long Outdoor School. It was such fun. Anyway, on the last day at breakfast we were served something very close to this Sausage Roll Recipe with a yummy Country Gravy. We were told that the lumberjacks needed hearty breakfasts and that this had been a favorite in the Pacific Northwest logging camps. I never had the gumption to create my own recipe as yeast and I most of the time don't get along. However when I read that you used your bread machine to make your dough I had one of those "slap my forehead, why didn't I think of that" moments! Thank you so much for helping me to make a great memory come back to life.
