I love making paper crafts with scrapbook paper. One of my favorite things to do each year is to make a new Halloween wood blocks with a favorite paper I have found. I just received the My Minds Eye Frightful Collection (Thanks My Minds Eye!) and I knew I would making a Wicked blocks set this year with their paper – I just LOVE it!
Halloween Wicked Blocks
So the first thing you need to do is cut our your wood. I ran to Home Depot and grab some 2×3’s – stud boards ( tips for buying wood for craft projects). Once home I cut the wood. For the Wicked set I cut two pieces to 9 inches. Then one each of 8, 7, 6 and 5 inches. Sand the wood, dust, paint black and let dry.
While the paint is drying on your blocks you will need to cut your paper. Choose 6 of your favorite pieces of paper. Make sure the paper isn’t too dark as the lettering will be black. All of my paper pieces are cut 2 inches wide. I cut two pieces to be 8 1/2 inches wide and then one each of 7 1/2, 6 1/2, 5 1/2 and 4 1/2 inches wide.
I use Mod Podge to apply the paper to the wood blocks. Put a thin layer of Mod Podge on the block, add the paper and using a squegee I rub the paper on the block. Removing excess glue, pressing to get out air bubbles and sometimes holding my fingers down on it in spots until it is dry and nicely attached.
Let this dry for a good 15 minutes before you add your lettering. For the lettering I use black vinyl. Apply the vinyl to the block, removing the backing carefully so you don’t rip the paper.
I like to seal it on top with more Mod Podge. You really need to make sure your first application of Mod Podge is dry or you will get bubbles in your project. I like to add some glitter to this top coat (How to make glitter glue).
I love how this block set turned out – so cute and Spooky! Perfect for my Halloween mantle!
