Crepe Paper Christmas Tree

This post may contain affiliate links. Read my discolsure police here.

This past weekend I had some fun making some more Christmas items to decorate with this year.  One of these is a Crepe Paper Christmas Tree and I just LOVE how it turned out.  I am so excited to share a tutorial with you on how I made it.

Crepe Paper Christmas Tree

Crepe Paper Christmas Tree

Supplies Needed:

  • Foam Cone – I would recommend a White foam cone.  I used a green foam floral cone and while it worked it made a bit of a mess.  So the White foam cone I linked to would be better.
  • Green Crepe Paper
  • Straight Pins
  • sewing machine
  • snowflake beads
  • mini glue dots
  • Scrapbook paper
  • wooden dowell or stick or even a toothpick if you don’t have anything else.

I am not much of a sewer (I am trying though) and I usually bring out the sewing machine with paper projects that I am doing.  You want to sew a Straight line (with no backstitching) about 1/2 an inch from the top of your crepe paper.

sewing crepe paper

Once this is sewn you need to gather the crepe paper – you gather it the same way you would with fabric.  Holding onto the bottom thread and pulling the paper to “gather” it.

Crepe gathered

The amount of crepe paper you need depends on how tall your cone is and how much you gather the crepe paper.  Starting at the bottom of your cone secure the crepe paper with a straight pin.

Crepe on cone

Start winding the crepe paper around the cone and using push pins when needed.

Wrapping all the way to the top.  Once you reach the top secure it with some straight pins.

Next I grabbed my little snowflake beads and mini glue dots.  I then just started gluing the little beads all over the tree – I think it is so pretty

I wanted to add a star at the top.  I had some extra stars from when I made my Star Christmas ornaments so I used those.  You could just cut out some stars from some scrapbook paper (free hand or with a cricut).

I adhered my mini dowell in between two stars and then pushed it into the top of my tree

I just can’t wait to pull out my other Christmas decorations and start decorating my home for Christmas.  I think the tree will look wonderful with all of the other Christmas decorations I have.

Hi there! I am visiting from Creative Mondays! Firstly, I’d like to say how nice it is to ‘meet you’! Secondly, WHAT a good idea! Your tree really does look super! I am so impressed! Thirdly, I’d LOVE to own a Cricut- I have lots of punches but no die-cutter, so I’d definitely explore creating large paper letters which I can’t do with my punches and I’d make a cool sentiment poster with it! Would be wonderful to win- COME ON Rafflecopter, fly this way!!!xx
